The amazing brain
Ever wondered how your child’s brain grows and changes? Together we will explore the fascinating world of childhood development and gain an understanding of the key stages of brain development, from infancy to adolescence including expected milestones. You will learn how the different brain regions contribute to everything from emotions and memory to language and problem-solving. We will then look at how experiences, nurturing relationships, and a stimulating environment are crucial for building a healthy, resilient brain.
Keeping our children calm
We’ll explore effective strategies to support your child at home and in the community. We’ll then delve into how we can better understand distressed behaviour, discuss ways to observe and reflect, and discover why our adult responses are key to fostering positive outcomes for all. This will all lead towards equipping yourself with the tools and insights needed to confidently guide your child through difficult moments.
The power of connection
This session is all about nurturing your child’s potential! We will discuss the fundamental building blocks for healthy development and explore the vital roles of routine, play, and connection in early childhood and beyond. Next, we will cover practical strategies to foster these needs and gain valuable insights into the impact of electronic devices.
Changing behaviour
The final session will dive back into the fascinating world of neuroscience as we build upon the knowledge gained from previous sessions. We’ll explore practical strategies to foster and encourage positive choices and behaviour in your children. A key factor of this will be learning how repetition and consistency, rooted in brain development, can pave the way for lasting change.

Self-harm awareness and support
Delivered with compassion and sensitivity, our session will explore why self-harm might occur, how it can present, and how carers can respond with empathy, confidence, and care. Throughout the session, we will provide practical strategies to support a child who may be struggling, with a strong emphasis on emotion coaching, a powerful approach to help children recognise, express, and manage their emotions in healthy ways.
Anxiety red flags
This insightful and practical session is designed to help foster carers recognise the early signs and “red flags” of anxiety in children and young people. We’ll explore how anxiety can present in both obvious and subtle ways - emotionally, behaviourally, and physically, and what this may look like in a foster care context. Carers will gain a deeper understanding of the underlying causes of anxiety and learn how to respond with empathy, reassurance, and effective support strategies.
Emotion coaching
All four sessions will focus on recognising emotional distress early and responding with compassion, calm, and connection. Through practical tools and real-life strategies, carers will learn how to offer immediate emotional support, create safe spaces for expression, and help children begin to move through overwhelming feelings before they escalate.
