Adoption support and CAMHS workshop 2 Friday 20 September 2024
Course date: Friday, September 20, 2024AEM adoption support have joined up with Nottinghamshire CAMHS to support adoptive parents to revisit the impact of developmental trauma on their child and their emotional wellbeing.
These workshops aim to support adoptive parents with thinking about their concerns in relation to their child’s current presentation using a trauma informed approach and are available to all adoptive parents in the AEM region.
All adoptive parents attending workshops 2 and 3 will require a solid understanding of developmental trauma. If adoptive parents have already attended other courses relating to this workshops 2 and 3 can be accessed straight away. If adoptive parents haven’t attended other courses or wish to refresh their knowledge, workshop 1 will help attendees get more out of workshops 2 and 3.
Workshop 2 will explore the overlap between developmental trauma and two neuro-developmental disorders (Autism Spectrum Disorder/Condition and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
The aims of the workshop include:
- Understanding ASD and ADHD in childhood.
- Understanding the overlaps between these neurodevelopmental differences and the effects of developmental trauma in children and young people.
- Understanding when and how a child might be assessed for ASD and ADHD.
- Understanding the overlaps in the support needed by children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences who have experienced developmental trauma.
There will be plenty of time for informal discussions and reflections within the timings of all three workshops.
