Adopted Young People's Events

Adoption Support run a programme of events for children and young people. These events allow children to identify with others who are adopted, enjoy indoor and outdoor activities such as arts, crafts, cooking, DJ-ing and dancing, sailing, climbing, cycling and football. They take place throughout the year in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and children can attend one event in either region per season.

Events are divided by age and events for each age group will take place on different dates:

  • 5-8 year olds
  • 8-12 year olds
  • 13-18 year olds

Parents are welcome to settle children in and one-to-one support can be offered to children with special needs. Please note that 5 to 8 year old events are family events and parents are expected to attend, too.

Here are some comments from those who have attended previous events and some photographs of the activities:

“The event had a relaxed atmosphere giving chance for children and parents to get to know each other."

“The event was great, a brilliant way of bringing adopters and adopted children together.”

“These events help my children realise that there are other children in the same situation as them and that they are not different from everybody else”

“If my children were to become anxious or angry. I know that they are understood and accepted which makes me relax and enjoy myself”

“I enjoyed the zip wire it was great fun”

“I like meeting other adopted young people, I didn’t feel different”

“I liked the toast, hot chocolate and samosas”

“I had fun instead of just sitting at home”

"It was a fun, relaxed and happy event, kept us all very busy"

"Loved it all, the variety of activities and meeting others was really helpful"

"Lovely idea for children to know they are not alone and keep in touch with social workers who offer support"

"Always another activity to do- no time to get bored."

Voice of Adoption Young People's Group

We are a small group of adopted young people in Nottinghamshire aged 11-18 who meet 6 times a year on a Saturday from 10am - 2pm.

We link with other groups and local authorities as well as doing project work and relating our experiences of being adopted to the projects. We also plan and test activities for other adopted young people's events. We make time to socialise with each other, talk about any adoption issues and make new friends.

We are looking for more young adopted young people to join the group! Joining the group helps build your confidence, gives you space to listen to others and also share your views.

Contact Allison Lindley on 07834 941221 or allison.lindley@adoptioneastmidlands.nottscc.gov.uk if you are interested in joining the group.
